Dean Hixon in turn contacted the Agricultural Men's Club and approximately half of the members decided to colonize with Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. During the period of colonization, Donald R. Warner, an alumnus of the Beta Chapter, served as their advisor. In 1956 the young Gamma Chapter purchased the old Farmhouse facility and this became their home until May of 1971. At this time they began building a new facility on the old site with funds from the alumni association. This new facility was beneficial to the chapter for expansion purposes. 1987 marked another significant year for the men of the Gamma Chapter and the Alpha Gamma Sigma Foundation was formed. This special foundation was created to ensure that the needs of the Gamma Chapter will continue to be met. Recently the physical appearance of the chapter has changed again. In the summer of 1998 a new addition was built on to our existing house. Thanks to the generous donations from our alumni, we now have a state of the art kitchen and computer room. Meanwhile the internal quality of the Gamma Chapter remains the same as we continue to lead the campus in scholarship and involvement. Our major philanthropies are the Masters Golf Tournament, which raises money for the Special Olympics, and the See-Saw-A-Thon that we hold in conjunction with Gamma Phi Beta Sorority to raise money for the Laura Cockson Memorial Scholarship Fund which promotes alcohol awareness on our campus. Current Events Currently our chapter consists of 86 active members, with 66 of these members living in the chapter house. Our chapter continues to lead the campus at the University of Nebraska as active members currently hold positions as ASUN (Association of Students of the University of Nebraska) President and Inter-Fraternity Council President. We also have members in many campus organizations such as, Greek Ambassadors, University Ambassadors, Student Alumni Association, Block and Bridle, Alpha Zeta (Agricultural Honor Society), Livestock Judging Team, Innocent's Society and Mortar Board (Senior Honor Societies), Order of Omega (Greek Honor Society), and various others. Scholastically our chapter continues to be among the top Houses on campus achieving a 3.306 All-House GPA. Our new member class was also very successful achieving a 3.283 GPA. The Gamma chapter continues to strive philanthropically as well. We look forward this semester for our annual Master's Miniature Golf Tournament on April 8, with proceeds supporting the Special Olympics. We will also continue to participate in the Nebraska Roads Hi-way Clean up on April 23. Many Social Events for this semester have also been planned. Our annual Red-Rose Formal at the Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln is set for March 3. Our biggest social event of the semester, Hurricane, has been set for April 22. At this event we annually fill our parking lot with sand, set up volleyball courts, and bring the House Stereo out for some fun in the sun with a sorority. We have already begun thinking about summer recruitment and have actually experienced some changes in summer recruitment process used at the University of Nebraska. The changes deal mostly with Fraternity Rush becoming more involved with NSE (New Student Enrollment), a day all incoming freshman attend to become aquatinted with the University and enroll in classes. Following NSE on the days of June 6-10, 15-16, 23-24, 30, and July 7 every Greek Fraternity at UNL will be open for perspective students to tour and meet members. Alpha Gamma Sigma extends an invitation for anyone interested to tour our chapter House and join us for a barbecue on these days. Also during this time we will be having to Summer Rush Parties at locations outside of Lincoln on June 17- 18, and July 1 -2, specifics on these events will be determined at a later date. From May 5-June 5 our fraternity will be traveling out to visit prospective members and will also have several Rush Parties during this time with dates and times to be listed at a later date.
